Advisory Board for the Elderly


The Advisory Board for the Elderly was established in accordance with Section 4 of the Homes for the Elderly and Disabled Persons Law (L.222/91) and Regulation 39(1) of the Homes for the Elderly and Disabled Persons Regulations of 2000 (RAA) 213/2000). Members of the above Board are appointed by the Deputy Minister for Social Welfare for a three year term of office.

The purpose of the above Advisory Body is to assist the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare to implement the provisions of the Law.

Terms of Reference:

- to deal with issues arising from existing legislation;

- to examine problems experienced during the implementation of the various provisions of the legislation and to submit recommendations and ways of coping with them;

- to investigate the possibility for new measures which need to be applied in order to safeguard the well-being and best interests of the elderly and to submit recommendations for further improvement of the legislation.

Members:

The Advisory Body comprises 11 members as follows:


    - one representative of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare;

    - one representative of the Ministry of Health;

    - one representative of the Union of Municipalities of Cyprus;

    - one representative of the Pancyprian Association of Owners of Nursing Homes for the Elderly;

    - one representative of Voluntary Private Care Homes;

    - four representatives of the elderly and disabled persons;

    - two representatives of the Pancyprian Federation of Associations for the Welfare of the Elderly.
