BILATERAL COOPERATION NORWAY GRANTS
Announcement dated 19/03/2015
The Social Welfare Services of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance are planning to convert the "NEA ELEOUSA" Home into a “Centre for the Provision of Services to Persons with Multiple Disabilities”.
Persons who are currently residents and are receiving care at the “Nea Eleousa” Home, as well as other persons who are staying with their families and have identical needs for such services, will still receive supportive services within the premises which previously housed the "Nea Eleousa" Home. The building will undergo the necessary renovations to adapt to the needs of a contemporary Centre for the Provision of Services which will offer upgraded support programmes to people with disabilities.
The programmes which will be offered include physiotherapy, music therapy and occupational therapy, Kinesiotherapy etc., which have been proven to significantly contribute to the well-being and activation of the abilities of people with multiple disabilities and will be delivered on an organised basis of a multi-disciplinary approach in a well-designed and ergonomic space.
Conversion of the “Nea Eleousa” Home into a Day Care Centre
The "Nea Eleousa" Home has operated as a 24-hour care Institution, promoting the social inclusion and integration of people with multiple disabilities and severe mental disabilities since 1977. The Social Welfare Services began the de-institutionalisation of the residents of the "Nea Eleousa" Home since 1996. This was completed in January 2015 and all residents of the Home will be accommodated in small structures within the community.
The building of the Nea Eleousa Home, which has been renamed "Irida", is in the process of being converted into a Day Care Centre. The building has been renovated and new equipment will be installed soon to meet the needs of the target group. The European Economic Area subsidises the Project by 59.42% and 40.58% will be supplemented from National Funds.
The implementation of this Project is along the lines of the policy of the Social Welfare Services which aims to constantly upgrade the services provided to people with multiple disabilities who reside in State Institutions. Currently, various kinds of programmes are underway, so that these people can enjoy their right to social inclusion and rehabilitation, like all the other citizens.
